The 5-Minute AI Reflection That Changed My Evenings

Jay Shetty’s video How To Use ChatGPT to Actually Change Your Life made me think about something I’ve been experimenting with myself over the last month.

AI is often presented as a productivity tool. A shortcut. A way to write faster, plan faster, create faster.

But I’ve started using it differently.

For the last month, I’ve been using AI as a reflection partner – and honestly, as a challenger of my thoughts, actions, patterns, and beliefs. Not to validate everything I feel, but to help me see what I might be avoiding.

And it has made a real difference.

Most evenings, I take five minutes before sleep to unpack the day. I tell AI what happened, what triggered me, what I’m still carrying, or where I reacted in a way I don’t fully understand. Then I ask it to challenge me gently but honestly.

It helps me close the day with less background noise.

Jay shares many powerful ways to use AI for personal growth, including:

  • doing a brutally honest life audit
  • identifying self-sabotage patterns
  • building your personal operating system
  • preparing for difficult conversations
  • creating small accountability systems
  • understanding emotional overreactions
  • writing letters you’ll never send

The magic is not in the tool or the prompt itself. It is in the honesty you bring to it.

AI can help you reflect, but only if you are willing to tell the truth. It can challenge your beliefs, but only if you are open to being wrong. It can support change, but only if you are ready to participate.

So maybe start small.

Choose one thing you want to work on in yourself. Ask AI to help you unpack it. Tell it not to simply agree with you, but to challenge your patterns and be your best advisor.

Five honest minutes can shift more than you think.
